In a nutshell: sealant is “wax” on steroids.
Paint sealant prioritizes protection. It is entirely synthetic and lasts 6 – 12 months when washed with quality soap.
Sealant is essentially a redundancy in car care as it protects your car’s relatively durable clear coat. Think of it as a throw-away layer; something that gets beat up by sunlight, bugs and birds so your paint doesn’t have to.
After being spread on your paint like traditional wax, sealant must be given time to bond with the surface. This curing period can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 3 hours depending on the manufacturer’s directions.
